Elvebakken Church

Visit Elvebakken Church to get a feel of Alta’s countryside. Marvel at the surrounding sceneries and relax in the peaceful interiors of this cathedral.
Situated in the town of Elvebakken, this church is easily visible on the Sandfallet hill. It was built in 1911 after the efforts of teacher BO Mardal. It has a rear organ gallery and a vestry alongside it. The structure is made of concrete and wood with an internal space that seats up to 354 people. Church concerts and regular services take place here all year round. The premises is also open for kindergarten and school visits. The photo at the altarpiece is a replica of El Greco’s painting and was made by Ivo Pannagii. The carpentry in the church hall is worth glancing at because of the details and the cross embedded in it. Each side of the altar has a stained glass window with the picture of the Dove on one side and the cross on the other.
